And if for some reason you have mpeg2 videos (for example, things recorded from a HD Homerun from broadcast TV), the intel NUC will play it back fine but the nas just chokes because it doesn't support mpeg2 decoding (but a lot of this also depends on the playback client-some will playback mpeg2 natively and not have a problem-few of the devices we have at home for watching recorded TV will play mpeg2 properly). At this point you can go ahead and start adding your media library, but first let’s take a look at the various settings available via the Preferences link at the upper right hand corner of the screen. Remote viewing performance is especially more responsive. This will launch the Plex Media Manager in your default web browser via port 32400. About 6 months ago I grabbed an intel NUC and set it up as the plex server that points to the media on my NAS and performance is so much better and more responsive-the processor is more competent and has better hardware transcoding support. I was running my plex server on my ds1019+ and the performance was less than stellar, even with local playback. However, I would have suggested an alternative if you were otherwise fine with your 218play-get an intel NUC (a tiny computer box) for plex. If you go the docker path, you should set it up so that you can back up and restore if something goes awry with your NAS, so you don't have to re-do your whole library again. Repeat these steps for TV shows, music, and/or photos. Once you’ve selected the folder (s), click Add library to complete the process. I preferred the ds version because I didn't have issues with it in general, and it's easier to troubleshoot things (actually I never had to) when it's more-simply configured vs. Now it’s time to point Plex at the actual files, select Browse for media folder and select the folder that houses your movie files. I always ran the ds app for plex, but others swear by the docker container.
